When should I fertilise?

Why should I avoid fertilising my garden in Winter?

Most plant species like to grow in warmer climates (i.e. Summer and Spring). As such these are the times your plants are naturally looking to obtain water and nutrients from the soil. In the winter, plants go into a ‘hibernation’ of sorts, and require much less attention for growth. Therefore it’s often wasteful to regularly fertilise in winter, as your plants don’t require the resources.
