Bougainvillea – stunning displays of tropical colour

← Part of News

The thorny stems of the Bougainvillea are surrounded by incredible ‘paper’ flowers in several different varieties and colours. Originating in South America but grown all over the world, Bougainvillea are extremely hardy and easy to grow.

Pohlmans has several different varieties of these showy plants, including a sensational new breed. Gardeners rejoice! The Vera series has significantly less thorns than other varieties, making it much more garden-friendly. This series comes in deep pink, light pink, white, variegated and purple.

Pixie Queen and Pixie Pink are outstanding compact hybrids which are perfect for patios and pots. They are extremely heat and humidity resistant and hold their leaves and bracts even after cold or wet weather.

Other varieties available coming into Summer are the Seafoam, Flame, Bengal Orange and Delta Dawn, superior performers with hand-picked unique colours and fabulous flower power.

Try growing bougainvillea by training them up and along fences or against garden sheds. Bougainvilleas grow best in dry soil, in very bright full sun and with frequent fertilisation, but they require little water once established, and in fact will not flourish if over-watered.
