One of the earliest cultivated legumes Chickpeas are high in protein, iron, vitamins, fibre and antioxidants, are very low in sodium and fat and are gluten-free.

Care: Plant in Full sun in loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Mulch well to conserve soil moisture. Avoid overhead watering which can hurt the flowers and pods. Side dress with aged compost and avoid nitrogen rich fertilisers. Chickpeas can be picked and eaten fresh like snap peas or harvested for drying when the leaves have begun to wither.
