Bean ‘Purple King’ Climbing

← Part of Vegetables, Diggers Club

This magic bean looks purple when harvested, but changes to green when cooked. Not just a pretty bean, the dark purple flowers of this climber are decorative and make a wonderful temporary screen for much needed privacy. Flowers are quickly followed by slender purple pods that stand out against the deep-green leaves to make harvest even easier. Pick daily to encourage an abundant crop. Harvest in 13 weeks. Yield 1.2kg per plant.

Choose a position in full sun and enrich the soil with compost and well-rotted manure prior to planting. Plant at the same depth in the soil as it was in the pot, after the last frost. Grow on a trellis and mulch to protect the shallow root system. Water regularly. Harvest daily for an abundant crop.
