Capsicum Californian Wonder

← Part of Vegetables, Diggers Club

The most popular heirloom bell-style pepper (aka capsicum if you live in Australia) in the world. The large blocky fruit is suitable for stuffing or sautéing and slicing. Versatile and packed with flavour and nutrients, especially when eaten fresh from the garden. Pick green or red.

How to grow

The capsicum family have a greater demand for heat than tomatoes, so in cooler areas start your capsicums indoors so that they can be planted outside as advanced seedlings after the risk of frost has passed. Choose a warm, sunny spot and cultivate it deeply adding dolomite to supply the capsicums need for calcium and magnesium. Regular harvesting improves the productivity and vigour of the plant. Pick the fruit using secateurs to avoid damaging the plant and wear gloves when harvesting chillies!
